Happenings On Campus
The School Year March-es On
Winter seems to be giving way to spring-like days on campus and it’s great to see our students taking in the sunshine and enjoying outdoor activities. Second term was action-packed and marked by several teams winning division championships. Over the March break, a selection of students lived out the school’s motto by travelling to India and Guatemala for service trips, where they helped build a home and school for those in need. While our Young Alumni Challenge brought in more than $26,000, on the other side of the globe, Ridley hosted a successful Hong Kong reception.
Ridleians Give Back in India and Guatemala
For the duration of term break, 17 of our Grade 10 and 11 students spent 12 days in Pondicherry, India, where they helped build a home for a family of eight. Their work ethic and dedication were truly evident over the eight days on the build. A highlight of the trip was a visit to a local elementary school, where Ridleians had the chance to play with young students and provide them with toys and resources. Our students were accompanied by Chair of the Board, Ms. Georgina Black ‘85, Mr. Gerardo Martinez, and Mr. Matthew Bowie.
More than 15,000 kilometers away, our Grade 7 to 10 students assisted in building a school in El Progreso, Guatemala with
The DIG
.
Ms. Allison Harding, Mr. Dave Costello and Ms. Carla D'Annibale, along with Ridley parent, Ms. Kim Arnold chaperoned the week-long service trip, which proved to be a humbling and enriching experience. Ridleians even had the opportunity to see the now, fully-operational school Ridley helped build last year.

Ridley’s Best Year in Athletic History
With our rich 126-year history, Ridley has collected many athletic victories, trophies, medals and titles, but 2015/2016 has proven to be the winningest year ever for our school. This school year alone, our Tigers have captured five major national tournament and league championship victories (CAIS Senior Girls Basketball, CISAA DI Girls Basketball, CAIS Senior Boys Basketball, CISAA DI Boys Basketball, Midwest Prep Hockey League Championship). Our First Boys basketball team has dominated its season with a total of six tournament wins in seven events. Our 100 student athletes have also secured 12 additional medal positions in major national tournaments and League Championships.

James B. Milligan Character Scholarship
The
James B. Milligan Character Scholarship
has been established to recognize the 35-year career of Mr. Jim Milligan, current Head of Lower School. Mr. Milligan, who has given tireless commitment to Ridley and to generations of Ridleians, will be retiring at the end of this school year. The scholarship will be awarded to a new, incoming student to the Lower School, who demonstrates the qualities of character associated with Mr. Milligan: compassion, humility, dedication, selflessness, and thoughtfulness. Hong Kong Reception in Review
On March 17
th
, nearly 80 Ridleians joined Headmaster Kidd, and members of the Advancement Office in Hong Kong at the Kee Club. It was a great display of school spirit and support from our alumni, parents and prospective families, who continue to share a keen interest in our school.

50 Years of Rowing
On March 5
th
, the first of many events celebrating our school’s 50
th
anniversary of rowing took place. A reception at Kenyon Lett House saw many familiar faces and highlighted just how fundamental this sport has been, and continues to be, to our school’s culture. The reception coincided with the Ontario Ergometer Championships held in Ridley’s Fieldhouse.
